אנטיגואה היא עיר בגוואטמלה בה יש היסטוריה של התחדשות. זוהי פנינה קולוניאלית עם ארכיטקטורה מרשימה בסגנון הבארוק הממוקמת בין הרי געש. אנטיגואה הוכרזה על ידי אונסק"ו כאתר מורשת עולמית והיא שימשה בעבר כבירתה של גואטמאלה הספרדית והקולוניאלית. אנטיגואה היא עיר ששרדה מאורעות רבים כמו שריפות, שיטפונות, התפרצויות וולקניות של הרי געש עד שמרביתה הושמדה ברעידת אדמה חזקה שהתרחשה ב 1773. לאחר מכן הוחלט למצוא עיר יציבה יותר מבחינה גאולוגית לעיר הבירה…

אנטיגואה ננטשה למעשה למשך קרוב למאה שלמה עד ל 1850, כאשר השקעה חדשה השפיעה תחייתה מחדש של העיר. מבנים עתיקים רבים חודשו ושופצו, גם המוזיאונים העתיקים, בשעה שמבנים אחרים נשארו הרוסים.
